Mayapur, nestled at the junction of the Ganga and Jalangi rivers, is a serene city renowned for its numerous temples. Founded by Bhakti saint Vinod Thakur, it’s believed to be the birthplace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, an incarnation of Lord Krishna. Key attractions include the Chandrodaya Temple, Prabhupada’s Samadhi, Shree Chaitanyamath, Goswami Maharaj Temple, and Chand Kazi’s Samadhi. Mayapur is a significant Vaishnavite pilgrim center, forming one of the nine dhams of the holy islands known as Navadwipa. These islands, resembling a lotus flower, host around 185 temples, representing diverse beliefs including Shaiva, Vaishnava, and Buddhist, all coexisting harmoniously.
