Puri Jagannath Mandir –

According to folklore, before being known as Jagannath, the Lord was worshiped as ‘Purushottama,’ representing the creator, protector, and destroyer of the world. The Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri was built by King Ananta Varman Chodaganga Deva in the 12th century, with completion and installation of deities by Anangbheema Deva III in 1230 AD. Nabakalebara is a unique tradition at the Jagannath Temple, occurring every 8, 11, 12, or 19 years. It involves replacing the wooden idols of the deities. The process includes traveling to a forest, finding divine trees, shaping the wood into new idols, bringing them to Puri, burying the old idols, and revealing the new ones to devotees.
