The Government of West Bengal has just paved the way for unprecedented growth in tourism. By granting industry status to the hospitality sector, we are setting a benchmark for innovation and development. Expect enhanced services, world-class infrastructure, and a boost in job creation.
“The tourism department proposed granting industry status to the hospitality sector, encompassing hotels and related facilities. The cabinet, in a meeting at Nabanna, approved the proposal, citing its potential to attract investment and generate employment in the sector,” stated a minister who attended the meeting.
This industry status holds several advantages for hotels. Firstly, they can benefit from reduced electricity costs by paying the industrial power tariff instead of the higher commercial rate. Secondly, the hospitality sector, once designated as an industry, will enjoy lower electricity duty rates. Thirdly, hotels can anticipate savings on water supply bills and reduced fees for licenses and various taxes, including property tax.
