DALMA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY IN JHARKHAND

The Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary situated in East Singbhum and Saraikela-kharsawan district of Jharkhand, along NH-33, is spread over about 193 sq.km. This sanctuary is a favoured abode of Indian elephants due to availability of water even duringsummers. Leopard, Barking Deer, Sloth Bear, Monkey,Giant Squirrel are also found. he nearest airport is at Ranchi which is about 131 kmsand takes two & half hour to reach Dalma. The nearest railway station to Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary is at Jamshedpur/Tatanagar. Jamshedpur town is about half an hour driving distance away.

The sanctuary boasts of about 160 odd elephants during May-June. There are many good hotels on NH-33 at 15 minutes driving distance.

How To reached Dalma Forest?

Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, located approximately 33 kilometers away from the nearest city, Jamshedpur, can be accessed via NH-33. There is no direct transportation to the sanctuary, but you have the option to hire a private car or taxi for your journey. The rugged terrain leading to the sanctuary from Makulakocha Check Post is best suited for SUVs.

If you’re coming from Kolkata, it’s a convenient 7-hour drive to reach the wildlife sanctuary, making it easily accessible by car.

For travelers coming from further distances, here are your transportation options to reach Jamshedpur:

By Air: The nearest airport to Jamshedpur is Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi. You can take a flight to Ranchi and then avail public transportation, such as a bus, to reach Jamshedpur from the Ranchi Bus Station, which is approximately 5 kilometers from the Ranchi airport. Alternatively, there are direct train services connecting Ranchi and Jamshedpur as well.

By Rail: If you are traveling from Delhi, there are several weekly trains running to Jamshedpur Junction. The Bhubaneshwar Rajdhani is the fastest train option, covering the journey from Delhi to Jamshedpur in approximately 17 hours.
