The Bauls, a community of wandering minstrels, gather for the event, singing devotional songs accompanied by the melodic tones of the ektara, a one-stringed musical instrument. These Bauls set up 160 temporary hermitages at Jaydev Kenduli, staying there for approximately a month. It seems that they carry on the tradition of Jayadeva’s songs. Kenduli is situated along the banks of the Ajay River, and the commencement of the fair marks the auspicious day when Jayadeva is believed to have taken a bath at the Kadaambokhandi ghat of the Ajay River at Jaydev Kenduli.
