Located around 150 km from Bhagalpur, the largest city in the region, Deoghar was once a part of the Dumka District and today stands as the 5th largest city in Jharkhand.
About Baba Baidyanath Dham Jyotirlinga Temple
The Baba Baidyanath Dham is a revered Jyotirlinga temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, featuring a plain stone structure with a 72-feet tall pyramidal tower. At its peak are three gold vessels, donated by the Maharaja of Giddhaur, along with a distinctive Punch Sula (five-knived trident). Inside, it houses the Chandrakanta Mani, an eight-petaled lotus jewel. This sacred site is also known as Hridya Peeth, where the heart of Mata Sati is believed to have fallen. During Maha Shivratri, devotees offer vermilion (Sindur) as both the Jyotirlinga and Shaktipeeth exist here together.
