Dakshineswar Kali Temple Kolkata Information
Dakshineshwar Kali Temple, located on the eastern banks of the Hooghly River in Dakshineshwar, north of Kolkata, is a must-visit site. Associated with the mystic sage Ramakrishna Paramahansa and his wife Sarada Devi, the temple’s history is rich both spiritually and socio-politically. Founded by Rani Rashmoni in 1855, it opened just before the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny, India’s first war of independence. The temple, built in the traditional Bengal ‘nava-ratna’ (nine spires) style, adds to its historical charm.
